Events to benefit Wetmore Fire victims
The community of Wetmore has rallied around the families who lost their homes in the fire that swept through the small town on Oct. 23.
“As a community, we always pull together,” said Wetmore resident Dee West. “We want to let (the victims) know that we love them, care about them, and will stand by them through this difficult time.”
A collection and distribution center was established at the Wetmore Community Church Parsonage, located across from the Wetmore Post Office at the junction of Highways 67 and 96. Donations may be dropped off from 10 a.m. to noon Monday through Friday or by appointment by calling Dee West at (719) 784-2096.
“Some came home to find nothing but ashes and they are need of everything.” said West. “It was a miracle that there were no deaths.”
The center is in need of non-perishable food items, toiletries, paper products, clothing, bedding, blankets, towels, sheets, dishes, glasses, silverware, pots, pans, and small household appliances. Larger furniture items will also be accepted.
Monetary donations are always needed and can be dropped off at Rocky Mountain Bank and Trust, 101 E. Main St. in Florence, or mailed to the bank at PO Box 579 Florence, CO 81226. Checks should be made out to “Wetmore Fire Victims.”
The Wetmore Community Church, Wetmore Library, Wetmore w Club and Wetmore Homemakers Club will host a Chili Supper Benefit from 3 to 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17 at the Wetmore Community Center. The meal includes chili, chicken noodle soup, French bread, desserts and beverages for $6 per person or $7 for all you can eat. There will also be a silent auction that evening with all proceeds going to the victims fund. Silent auction items are needed.
